Buying a Drone for Divers

It’s no secret that drones have exploded in popularity in the last decade, and now more than ever divers are taking this nifty little aerial photographers on trips for even better shots! Here are some basics to look for when researching the right drone for you

  1. Price

This may go without saying, but these little machines can come with quite the price tag! As a general rule, the cheaper the drone, the more skill it may require to fly. Having said that, there are several companies now who have very beginner friendly user interface features, one main one being the ability to fly them with your smartphone!

  2. The Camera

This should go without saying, but image quality increases with price. Do you need 4k resolution, or is HD enough? What about internal gimbals? Again, the pricier you go, the more cinematic the shot.

  3. Portability

It’s pretty important for divers to look for a lighter weight drone when embarking on a trip; we have enough heavy (and wet!) gear as it is. Something like the DJI Mavic Mini (at a whopping 249 grams) might be a good choice!

What are your thoughts on taking drones on trips?
