The Practical First Piece of Gear...
When you’re a beginner diver, or perhaps not yet even a student, the world of dive gear can be a daunting one. What’s the best first piece of kit to get? Fins? Mask? A BCD and computer? It’s hard to determine a right answer, but there is a piece of kit you may not have considered… a safety sausage!
Aside from the obvious gear that should make up a beginner diver’s kit, personal fitting things like masks and fins, a safety sausage is an excellent investment. First of all, they are generally not included as part of a standard rental kit. Second, if you are ever lost (which could be easier for beginner divers to do) you’ve always got your trusty signaling device to help you out. Even if you aren’t necessarily in trouble, but don’t want to struggle against the current to get back to the dive boat, they may come pick you up if you inflate one of these bad boys!
