This week's creature feature gets deep... 4,000 feet deep to be exact!
Meet Bathyphysa confier, a deep sea siphonphore discovered off the coast of Angola in 2015 by the BP Oil Company. While collecting video footage off an oil rig, this creepy animal colony floated past earning the name "Spaghetti Monster" by workers.
Siphonophores are cnidarians, a group of animals closely related to corals and jellyfish, except these are colonial animals. This means they are collections of different working but distinctly separate parts: one for hunting, one for reproduction, etc...
