Where to Dive With Whales
Ahhh, whales. The ocean’s largest creatures, gentle giants traveling thousands of miles a year to feed, breed, and amaze tourists. They’re among the largest, deepest diving animals in the ocean, and but boy can they be hard to dive with. Regulations on whale interactions can be incredibly strict with many countries requiring special governmental permits to be in the water near them. But, if you are hoping to catch a glimpse of these giants underwater, here are your best bets…
Tonga, Polynesia. Many dives around this area are popular whale mating and birthing grounds.
Navidad Bank, Dominican Republic. A trip that won’t cost an arm and a leg to get to, the Dominican offers wonderful diving year round with the occasional humpback visit!
Mo’orea, French Polynesia. Again, on the other side of the world, but these waters are famous for whale sightings. Many shots you may have seen in wildlife documentaries of whales come from Mo’orea and the surrounding islands!
