Meet the Giant Siphonophore

I know what you’re thinking: “Meet the Giant what now??” And with good reason, too. Siphonophores are described as colonial animals that inhabit the deep sea. Generally seen around 2-3,000 feet at depth, these animals take the spot for one of the longest animals on earth (some growing up to 150 feet!). Siphonophores are made up of different, distinct specialized organs called “zoids” that are responsible for separate tasks like eating, digestion, reproduction, waste disposal and more. In fact, if you’ve ever seen a portugese man’o’war, congrats! You’ve seen a fully fledged siphonophore.
