Save-A-Dive Kit Essentials...

Alright, you’ve spent hours in airports, got all your baggage safely to the hotel, got all your gear on the boat, braved seasickness, and are now ready to dive!… until the inevitable happens. Blown O-Ring! Wonky Transmitter! Snapped buckle! These misfortunes are all too common on dive trips, which is probably why the tried and true “Save-A-Dive Kit” came to be! Nowadays, you can be fairly extensive kits on the market, or just build your own! Regardless of what kit you choose, make sure to have some of these essentials in there…

  1. Zipties. From mouthpieces to inflators, zipties are used for various pieces of kit. And, if you’re in a real pinch, they can be an excellently improvised solution. Case in point: my steel spring strap ankle rest would not stay in the middle of my booties during the dive. The solution? I ziptied either side of the spring strap to keep it in place!

  2. O-rings. Need we say more? Tank valves, transmitters, BC gaskets, camera housings… the underwater world is filled with these little life savers! Always bring a small variety with you.

  3. First aid. Though your dive boat will most likely have a pretty thorough kit, smaller first aid accessories from bandaids, tylenol, and sea sickness pills are a great extra to keep with you.

What’s in your save-a-dive kit??
