Get On The Wreck!
From all the different types of scuba diving, from deep dives, night dives, mixed gas dives, cave dives, blackwater dives, megafauna dives, there are few that offer as big an adventure and glimpse into history as a wreck dive. Whether diving old war wrecks in Truk Lagoon, the famous deep and cold wrecks of the Great Lakes like the Edmund Fitzgerald, or the German U Boats sunk off the east coast of America, wreck diving is accessible to all. There have been so many great books written on the history of wreck diving and the stories it tells, but one of our favorites at the shop is Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson. He offers the reader a glimpse into the history of wreck diving and the insane difference of skill and perhaps stupidity that was abundant in its seminal days. Divers bringing down double tanks to 250 feet, fully laden with hundreds of pounds of demolition equipment like sledgehammers and prybars were dead set on ransacking the sunken tombs for any treasures they may find. Nowadays, there are far more regulations in place to keep the wrecks as pristine and accessible for future generations.
