The Gentle Giant: Goliath Grouper

Weighing up to 800 pounds and growing to over 8 feet in length, the goliath grouper is one of the largest fish in the world and primarily occupies reefs and shipwrecks. It used to be completely overfished in the late twentieth century, but thanks to fishing regulations their populations have slowly recovered. Though enormous fish, they pose no risk to divers and are an absolute pleasure to see on a wreck! When young, they primarily live in mangroves and inland estuaries for a period of 6 to 8 years before moving into the open ocean.
