Only The Essentials...

In the world of diving, there’s no shortage of gadgets and gizmos to spend your money on. But let’s say you’re a brand new diver looking to get only the essential accessories for your next trip… what should you get? Below are some of our must haves…

  1. A sturdy gear bag

Be it a dry or mesh bag, some sort of storage for getting all that fancy new gear to and from the boat is a necessity. Some bags like the Stahlsac Bonaire actually have a dry bag built in!

  2. An SMB (Surface Marker Buoy)

More commonly known as the humble safety sausage, this little device is cheap, light, and could just save your life. Absolutely one of those accessories we hope we never need, but will be grateful if we ever have to.

  3. A quality dive light

Even during the day, it can be a really good idea to carry a dive light. Suppose the worst happens and you get stranded at sea? This in conjunction with an SMB is a great way to signal for help

  4. Dive knife

In the vein of things we hope we never have to use, a quality dive knife (stainless steel or titanium) can make short work of pesky fishing line or more troublesome kelp.

What dive accessory do you never leave home without?
