Digital Dive Logs: In With The New?

Ask any seasoned diver to take a peek at their log book and you might find an old, tattered, salt soaked captain’s log of wonderful memories, small trinkets, dive resort stamps, and maybe even photos. To some, this is the only true way to capture our memories abroad. But, as with many things in this century, the digital revolution has come, and with it are digital dive logs.

Most major computer manufacturers, including Suunto, Cressi, Oceanic, Scubapro, Garmin and more have their own apps nowadays that connect with their dive computers to seamlessly transmit data from the depths. In general, they are incredibly accurate and include more information than a casual diver could ask for. For the tech geeks, this is may be a blessing. But, is it the same as getting out the old waterproof pencil and paper, scribbling down which fish you were most excited to swim upon while enjoying the bumpy boat ride back to shore?
